Planning your job in Ryde
Ryde has a broad mix of homes. Many streets still have post-war brick and fibro houses, often next to newer duplexes built where older houses once stood, while apartment buildings of different ages, many of them around Top Ryde and the main roads, now hold most of the suburb’s homes. Older houses commonly have switchboards with ceramic fuses or limited safety switch protection, and circuits that struggle once air conditioning, an induction cooktop or a home office is added.
Work around your property
Xcel Electrical is based in Ryde, so jobs here are close to home for us. In apartment buildings we plan around lift bookings, parking and the building’s rules, and any work on common property is arranged through the owners corporation. Shops, cafés and offices around the Top Ryde shopping area can book work outside trading hours where that suits. Every job starts with a free, written quote, and wiring work comes with a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW).
Plan related jobs together
In established homes, related jobs such as new lights, extra power points and a switchboard upgrade can often be done in one visit. Tell us which rooms will be in use so we can plan the work around you.

Your questions
Electrical questions in Ryde
Why do the lights flicker when the air conditioner starts in our Ryde house?
A brief dip as a large motor starts can be normal, but regular or worsening flicker can point to a loose connection, an overloaded circuit, a worn switchboard component or a problem with the supply. Loose connections can overheat, so it’s worth having it checked rather than living with it. We test the circuits and the switchboard, and if the cause is on the network side, we explain who to contact.
We’re renovating an older Ryde home. When should an electrician be involved?
Plan the electrical work before walls are closed and finishes are ordered. We assess the existing switchboard, circuits and accessible wiring, then plan lighting, outlets and appliance connections around the renovation. Supply or metering changes may need a separate authorised provider. We quote the agreed work and coordinate it with your renovation schedule.
How is the price worked out?
The scope, fittings, condition of the existing wiring and access all affect the price. Our cost guides give Sydney market ranges to help you budget; they are not a quote for your property. Xcel Electrical provides a free written quote explaining the agreed work and price before it starts. If testing reveals further work, we explain the options before proceeding.
What access should I arrange for the visit?
Keep the work area and switchboard accessible, tell us about parking or locked gates, and arrange entry to any rooms involved. For an apartment or shared building, also check meter-room access, lift bookings and permitted work hours with the building manager. Confirm approval for work affecting common property.
Will the power need to be turned off?
Many electrical jobs require the affected circuit to be isolated while work is carried out. A switchboard job may interrupt power to the whole property. We explain the expected interruption when planning the work. Tell us about medical equipment, refrigeration, business operations or anything else that needs an uninterrupted supply so suitable arrangements can be made.
