Electrical repair and power point costs in Sydney

A standard new power point has a published Sydney range of $150–$290, including GST. Fault diagnosis and repairs depend on the cause, access and parts required, so a power point price does not cover every repair.

A practical example

An extra socket beside a desk

The $150–$290 range is relevant when one standard outlet can be connected to a suitable circuit through an accessible route. Solid masonry, a new circuit or a damaged switchboard changes the job. Send the proposed position and describe the equipment you intend to run there.

An example scope for planning, not a completed Xcel job or a quotation.

What changes the cost?

New position or replacement

A new outlet may need a cable route and circuit assessment. Replacing a damaged accessory at an existing sound connection is a different job.

Finding the cause

A fault can sit in an appliance, a connection or concealed wiring. Agree the diagnostic allowance and the approval process before a repair grows beyond that allowance.

Before you arrange the work

Power points and home appliances

List the equipment you intend to use together. An extra outlet does not increase the capacity of the circuit, and a high-load appliance may need its own circuit.

Testing and compliance paperwork

Ask for testing and the applicable Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work with wiring work. Keep the certificate with property records; it documents the work tested, rather than certifying every untouched part of the property.

Sources and how to use these figures

We checked the linked published prices on 21 October 2026. Where a source explicitly excludes GST, the figures here add 10%. Where GST is not stated, the table says so. Some references cover NSW generally or a specific Sydney suburb; their scope is identified below. Any rounding is explained with the source. These are sourced ranges, not a statistically measured market average or a maximum price for complex work.

Common questions

Why can two power point quotes differ?

Cable access, wall construction, circuit protection and whether the point is new or a replacement change the scope. Compare the written inclusions, not just the per-point figure.

Do tripping breakers always need replacement?

No. Protection can be responding correctly to an overload or fault. Diagnosis should come before replacing parts.

Is an hourly rate enough to estimate fault finding?

Only if the allowed investigation time and any attendance charge are clear. Ask for an initial diagnostic allowance and an approval point if the cause remains concealed.
