Planning your job in Concord West
Concord West is a mostly residential suburb of separate houses, many of them single-storey inter-war and post-war homes on decent blocks, with a smaller number of apartments, many near the station. Many of these houses are being extended, built up or replaced, which makes the electrical work as much about planning as repairs: switchboard upgrades and safety switches in the older homes, and new circuits, lighting and supply changes for additions and rebuilds.
Work around your property
Concord West is in the City of Canada Bay, about 5 km from our base in Ryde, so it’s one of the closest suburbs to us outside Ryde itself. Many older houses have a side driveway to a garage at the back, which suits an EV charger once the supply has been checked. Every job starts with a free, written quote with the price agreed before work begins, and wiring work comes with a CCEW.
Plan related jobs together
In established homes, related jobs such as new lights, extra power points and a switchboard upgrade can often be done in one visit. Tell us which rooms will be in use so we can plan the work around you.

Your questions
Electrical questions in Concord West
We’re adding a second storey to our Concord West house. What happens to the electrics?
Quite a lot, because the roof space where most cables run is removed. The power usually has to be reorganised while the builder works, and the ground floor’s lighting circuits are often rerouted. It’s a good time to upgrade the switchboard, plan circuits for the new floor and check the supply and meter position. Involve us while the plans are being finalised, and we’ll quote from the drawings and work to the builder’s schedule.
Can you install an EV charger in the garage at the back of our Concord West block?
Usually. The main question is distance: a garage at the end of a long driveway needs cable sized for the run, either underground or along a structure, and sometimes a small sub-board in the garage. We also check whether the switchboard and supply can take the extra load alongside the rest of the house. EV charger work is quoted after that check, with the price agreed before work starts.
How is the price worked out?
The scope, fittings, condition of the existing wiring and access all affect the price. Our cost guides give Sydney market ranges to help you budget; they are not a quote for your property. Xcel Electrical provides a free written quote explaining the agreed work and price before it starts. If testing reveals further work, we explain the options before proceeding.
What access should I arrange for the visit?
Keep the work area and switchboard accessible, tell us about parking or locked gates, and arrange entry to any rooms involved. For an apartment or shared building, also check meter-room access, lift bookings and permitted work hours with the building manager. Confirm approval for work affecting common property.
Will the power need to be turned off?
Many electrical jobs require the affected circuit to be isolated while work is carried out. A switchboard job may interrupt power to the whole property. We explain the expected interruption when planning the work. Tell us about medical equipment, refrigeration, business operations or anything else that needs an uninterrupted supply so suitable arrangements can be made.
