Planning your job in Concord
Concord is mostly houses, many of them Federation and inter-war bungalows on generous blocks, with later brick homes, newer rebuilds and a smaller number of apartments. A lot of these houses have been extended at the back while keeping the original front rooms, so it is common to find a newer switchboard and circuits in the extension alongside older wiring in the original part of the house. Switchboard upgrades, safety switches and rewiring during renovations are the most common jobs.
Work around your property
Concord is in the City of Canada Bay, about 6 km from our base in Ryde. The shops and cafés along Majors Bay Road can book repairs, lighting and new circuits outside trading hours. Larger backyards suit garden lighting, power to sheds and studios, and EV chargers in the garage once the supply is checked. Every job starts with a free, written quote, and the price is agreed before work begins.
Existing wiring and finishes
In older homes we check the condition of the existing wiring and switchboard before adding circuits, and plan cable routes that avoid damaging ornate ceilings, cornices and plaster walls where possible.

Your questions
Electrical questions in Concord
Our Concord bungalow has a newer extension at the back. Does the original part need rewiring?
Not necessarily. We test the cabling in the original rooms: if the insulation is sound, adding safety switches and spreading the load may be enough. Older rubber-insulated cable becomes brittle with age and should be replaced. Where it is needed, we run new cable through the roof space and under the floor to avoid disturbing original ceilings and cornices, and the quote sets out each part separately.
Can you add lighting to the front verandah of our Concord bungalow without spoiling it?
Yes. Verandah lights can usually be fed through the verandah roof or ceiling lining, with no visible conduit, and switched from inside the front door or set on a sensor. Many owners choose fittings that suit the age of the house. We use outdoor-rated fittings and safety switch protection, and look at the verandah construction before quoting.
How is the price worked out?
The scope, fittings, condition of the existing wiring and access all affect the price. Our cost guides give Sydney market ranges to help you budget; they are not a quote for your property. Xcel Electrical provides a free written quote explaining the agreed work and price before it starts. If testing reveals further work, we explain the options before proceeding.
What access should I arrange for the visit?
Keep the work area and switchboard accessible, tell us about parking or locked gates, and arrange entry to any rooms involved. Mention restricted ceiling or underfloor access when enquiring; you do not need to enter these spaces yourself.
Will the power need to be turned off?
Many electrical jobs require the affected circuit to be isolated while work is carried out. A switchboard job may interrupt power to the whole property. We explain the expected interruption when planning the work. Tell us about medical equipment, refrigeration, business operations or anything else that needs an uninterrupted supply so suitable arrangements can be made.
