These are planning ranges from published trade sources, not Xcel Electrical prices or a guarantee that every job falls within a range. All amounts are in Australian dollars. Your written quote confirms the scope, equipment, labour, exclusions and GST before work starts.

A practical example
Replacing a noisy bathroom extractor
The $280–$480 replacement range assumes usable existing wiring and ducting. Check the cut-out size, discharge point and access before selecting the fan. If the old unit simply discharges into the roof space or the duct is damaged, the work may need a new route rather than a straight replacement; confirm GST as the source does not state it.
An example scope for planning, not a completed Xcel job or a quotation.
What changes the cost?
Air path and ducting
The fan must move air to an appropriate discharge point. A short existing duct is a different job from a new route through a difficult ceiling.
Combined units
Heat, light and fan combinations can need different switching, circuit capacity and ceiling clearances from a simple extractor.
Before you arrange the work
Bathrooms and laundries
Provide the room size, existing opening and whether there is visible ducting. Persistent moisture can also need investigation beyond changing the fan.
Rangehoods
Kitchen extraction depends on the appliance and discharge route. Xcel’s electrical connection needs to be coordinated with any separate cabinetry, roofing or ducting work.
Sources and how to use these figures
We checked the linked published prices on 21 October 2026. Where a source explicitly excludes GST, the figures here add 10%. Where GST is not stated, the table says so. Some references cover NSW generally or a specific Sydney suburb; their scope is identified below. Any rounding is explained with the source. These are sourced ranges, not a statistically measured market average or a maximum price for complex work.

Common questions
Does a replacement fan always fit the old opening?
No. Match the cut-out and mounting dimensions before ordering; a size change can require ceiling work.
Is ducting included?
The new-position market example includes a standard duct route. For your quote, specify the discharge, access and any other trades needed.
Does a fan with a heater cost the same as a basic extractor?
Not necessarily. A combined unit can need different circuit capacity, switching, clearances and support. Quote the selected model and ducting route together.
