Planning your job in Lane Cove
Lane Cove is a leafy lower north shore suburb built around its village centre. Apartment buildings around the village and along the main roads now hold most of its homes, while the surrounding streets have Federation, inter-war and post-war houses, many of them close to bushland reserves. That mix shapes our work in Lane Cove: unit repairs, smoke alarms and strata-approved common property work in the apartments, and switchboard upgrades, safety switches, rewiring and outdoor lighting in the houses.
Work around your property
Lane Cove is in Lane Cove Council’s area, about 6 km from our base in Ryde, so jobs here are close to home for us. Shops, cafés and offices around the village and Lane Cove Plaza can book work outside trading hours. For houses on sloping blocks, power to decks, pools and studios is common. Every job starts with a free, written quote, with the price agreed before work begins, and wiring work comes with a CCEW.
Meter rooms and shared access
In apartments, access to the switchboard, meter room and common property often goes through the building manager or owners corporation, so tell us how access works and whether approval is needed.

Your questions
Electrical questions in Lane Cove
Our Lane Cove house backs onto a bushland reserve. Can we light the back garden?
Yes. We keep all cabling and fittings within your boundary, plan trench routes around tree roots and use outdoor-rated fittings with safety switch protection. With bushland next door, low fittings aimed down at paths and steps, on sensors or timers, give you the light you need without lighting up the reserve all night. Photos of the garden help us quote.
Our Lane Cove house is on a steep block. Why do you need to see it before quoting outdoor power?
Because the site sets the price. On a long run down to a pool, deck or studio, the cable has to be sized for the distance, and the route depends on the slope, paths and trees. Sandstone close to the surface, common on the north shore, can make trenching slow, so sometimes cable is better run along a structure or under the house. A sub-board at the far end is often worth including.
How is the price worked out?
The scope, fittings, condition of the existing wiring and access all affect the price. Our cost guides give Sydney market ranges to help you budget; they are not a quote for your property. Xcel Electrical provides a free written quote explaining the agreed work and price before it starts. If testing reveals further work, we explain the options before proceeding.
What access should I arrange for the visit?
Keep the work area and switchboard accessible, tell us about parking or locked gates, and arrange entry to any rooms involved. For an apartment or shared building, also check meter-room access, lift bookings and permitted work hours with the building manager. Confirm approval for work affecting common property.
Will the power need to be turned off?
Many electrical jobs require the affected circuit to be isolated while work is carried out. A switchboard job may interrupt power to the whole property. We explain the expected interruption when planning the work. Tell us about medical equipment, refrigeration, business operations or anything else that needs an uninterrupted supply so suitable arrangements can be made.
