Planning your job in Kensington
Kensington’s occupied housing is predominantly apartments, with separate houses also represented. Wiring routes, ceiling construction and access to the appropriate switchboard can vary considerably between these property types.
Plan connections before room changes
For a kitchen, study or living-room update, list the equipment and outlet positions you need. Confirm where the existing supply and network equipment sit. In apartments, proposed wall penetrations and shared cable routes should be checked with the building contact before installation.

Your questions
Electrical questions in Kensington
Can you add power and data points for a home office?
Yes. Tell us where the desk, modem and other equipment will sit. We assess the power circuit and a practical data-cable route, then quote the required outlets. A wired network connection and an electrical outlet have different installation requirements.
Can an apartment ceiling fan replace an existing light?
Sometimes. The ceiling support, wiring, controls, height and fan specification must be suitable. An existing light position is not automatically a safe fan mounting point. Send room and fitting photos so those checks can be planned.
How is the price worked out?
The scope, fittings, condition of the existing wiring and access all affect the price. Our cost guides give Sydney market ranges to help you budget; they are not a quote for your property. Xcel Electrical provides a free written quote explaining the agreed work and price before it starts. If testing reveals further work, we explain the options before proceeding.
What access should I arrange for the visit?
Keep the work area and switchboard accessible, tell us about parking or locked gates, and arrange entry to any rooms involved. For an apartment or shared building, also check meter-room access, lift bookings and permitted work hours with the building manager. Confirm approval for work affecting common property.
Will the power need to be turned off?
Many electrical jobs require the affected circuit to be isolated while work is carried out. A switchboard job may interrupt power to the whole property. We explain the expected interruption when planning the work. Tell us about medical equipment, refrigeration, business operations or anything else that needs an uninterrupted supply so suitable arrangements can be made.
How do I arrange a visit or urgent electrical help?
Call to confirm availability and arrival time. For urgent faults, phone us with the address and what has happened. For planned work, send the details through the quote form. If there is fire, electric shock or immediate danger, call 000 first.
