These are planning ranges from published trade sources, not Xcel Electrical prices or a guarantee that every job falls within a range. All amounts are in Australian dollars. Your written quote confirms the scope, equipment, labour, exclusions and GST before work starts.

A practical example
A three-bedroom renovation
The $9,200–$23,000 whole-home range is a broad reference for replacing wiring, not a fixed renovation budget. Mark which rooms and circuits will change, whether the home stays occupied and when walls will be open. Separately identify switchboard work, new accessories, temporary power and plastering or painting so competing quotes cover the same job.
An example scope for planning, not a completed Xcel job or a quotation.
What changes the cost?
How much wiring changes
One room, a renovation stage and a whole-home rewire are different projects. Specify which circuits and accessories are replaced and which remain.
Access and restoration
Open walls can reduce disruption during renovation. Finished masonry, occupied rooms and limited roof access can increase labour; plastering and painting must be included or excluded explicitly.
Before you arrange the work
Plan before the walls close
Coordinate power points, lighting, appliance circuits and data routes with the renovation layout. Changing positions after finishes are installed can mean doing access work twice.
Assess before replacing everything
A qualified assessment identifies wiring condition and protection. Retain sound work where appropriate and prioritise defects, rather than assuming every old home needs the same replacement scope.
Sources and how to use these figures
We checked the linked published prices on 21 October 2026. Where a source explicitly excludes GST, the figures here add 10%. Where GST is not stated, the table says so. Some references cover NSW generally or a specific Sydney suburb; their scope is identified below. Any rounding is explained with the source. These are sourced ranges, not a statistically measured market average or a maximum price for complex work.

Common questions
Does the whole-house range include a new switchboard?
Scope varies. Ask the quotation to name the board work, circuit protection and accessories included rather than assuming them.
Can we stay in the house during rewiring?
It depends on the work sequence and safe isolation. Agree room access, temporary power arrangements and restoration before booking.
Can a three-bedroom range price a partial rewire?
Not reliably. The circuits, room access and accessories determine a partial job. Ask for an itemised scope identifying what changes, what stays and any defects discovered during testing.
