These are planning ranges from published trade sources, not Xcel Electrical prices or a guarantee that every job falls within a range. All amounts are in Australian dollars. Your written quote confirms the scope, equipment, labour, exclusions and GST before work starts.

A practical example
Power trips on a weekend
The $250–$575 attendance-and-initial-labour range is a starting budget for the visit, not a guarantee that the fault will be repaired within it. A damaged accessory may be a small repair; concealed cable damage can need a separately approved investigation and return visit. Ask what happens once the included time is used.
An example scope for planning, not a completed Xcel job or a quotation.
What changes the cost?
Attendance versus repair
An urgent visit may cover making the installation safe and diagnosing the problem. Replacing a damaged cable or switchboard is a separate scope, so ask for the included time and the next approval point.
Time and access
Night, weekend and public-holiday work can change the charge. Locked meter rooms, isolation requirements and unavailable parts can also mean a return visit.
Before you arrange the work
When to call
Sparking, a burning smell, exposed live parts or repeated tripping need professional assessment. Keep clear of damaged equipment. Fire, electric shock or injury: call 000 first.
A trip is a symptom
An overloaded circuit, damaged appliance, moisture or a wiring fault can all trip protection. Repeatedly resetting it does not identify the cause.
Sources and how to use these figures
We checked the linked published prices on 21 October 2026. Where a source explicitly excludes GST, the figures here add 10%. Where GST is not stated, the table says so. Some references cover NSW generally or a specific Sydney suburb; their scope is identified below. Any rounding is explained with the source. These are sourced ranges, not a statistically measured market average or a maximum price for complex work.

Common questions
Will the attendance fee cover the whole repair?
Not necessarily. Ask what attendance includes, what additional labour costs and when a fixed repair price can be confirmed.
Can a non-urgent fault wait for business hours?
Describe the symptoms when you call. The electrician can advise whether the installation can safely remain isolated until a scheduled visit.
Why is an emergency range not a complete repair quote?
The electrician may first need to isolate the hazard and find the fault. Confirm the attendance and included labour, then agree the repair scope and any extra parts before further work.
