Steam, smells and damp

Replacing a fan or adding a new one?

A bathroom or laundry without a working exhaust fan holds steam, and that is how mould and peeling paint start. We fit new fans, replace noisy or failed ones and add fans to rooms that never had one.

Tell us which rooms, whether there is a fan there now, and if you have a model in mind. Photos of the ceiling and the existing fan help us plan the job.

  • Replace an existing fan

Swap a noisy, weak or failed fan, checking the existing wiring, switch and duct before fitting the new one.

  • Add a fan where there isn’t one

Plan the fan position, the wiring route and the switching, including the duct path from the ceiling.

  • Fan, light and heater units

Combined bathroom units need the right switching for each function. We plan the controls around the unit you choose.

  • Kitchen rangehoods

Power for a new or replacement rangehood, and connecting it, alongside the cooktop work if you’re doing both.

Planning the work in Roseville Chase

For houses on leafy blocks in Roseville Chase, access through roof spaces, gardens and separate garages can affect the route to the work area.

A clear ventilation path

A replacement fan must suit the opening and the route to the outside. A larger fan alone will not solve a blocked or unsuitable duct path.

Where the air goes

Plan a discharge path to outdoor air, not just into the roof space. We assess the existing ducting, roof or wall access and requirements for the proposed work before quoting. Any separate building or roof work is identified in the scope.

Switching and timers

A fan can run off the light switch, its own switch or a run-on timer that clears steam after you leave. Tell us how you’d like it to work.

Ceiling access

Fitting a new fan needs access above the ceiling for the wiring and duct. Two-storey homes and flat roofs can need a different approach.

What the quote covers

The written quote sets out the fan supply, the wiring, any new switch or timer, removal of the old fan and any making good around the opening.

  3. Fit and test

We install the fan and controls, test that it runs and draws properly, and clean up.

Your questions

Exhaust fan questions

Can you replace my bathroom exhaust fan with a quieter one?

Usually, yes. Replacing a fan in the same opening is the simplest job, as long as the new fan fits the cut-out and the existing wiring and duct suit it. Send a photo of the current fan and the model you like, and we’ll check before the visit.

If the new fan is a different size, the ceiling opening may need adjusting and patching. The quote will say so.

Can you add an exhaust fan to a room that doesn’t have one?

Yes. We need access above the ceiling to run the cable and fit the duct, and a switch or timer to control it. In a two-storey home, a bathroom under another room can need a different route, so we check the access first and explain the options in the quote.

Should the fan run on a timer?

A run-on timer keeps the fan going for a set time after you switch it off, which helps clear steam after a shower. It can be added to most installations. Tell us if you’d like one and we’ll include it in the quote.

Do you install kitchen rangehoods?

We provide the power and connect electric rangehoods, and we can do it with the oven or cooktop work if you’re updating the kitchen. Ducting through a cupboard or roof may also need a carpenter, depending on the kitchen; we’ll tell you what the job needs.

What access should I arrange for the visit?

Keep the work area and switchboard accessible, tell us about parking or locked gates, and arrange entry to any rooms involved. Mention restricted ceiling or underfloor access when enquiring; you do not need to enter these spaces yourself.
