EV charging

Home, apartment or business charging?

Tell us where you want to charge and whether you already have a charger in mind. We assess the proposed position, electrical supply and cable route before confirming the installation scope.

  • Home charger installation

A fixed charger for a garage, carport or driveway, planned around the charger specification, the parking position and your existing supply.

  • Choosing a charger

If you haven’t bought equipment yet, we can talk through charger options that suit your vehicle and supply before you buy.

  • Apartments and business premises

Identify the parking space, supply arrangement and property approvals. Shared installations need a clear scope before work can be quoted.

  • Associated electrical work

The circuit, cable route and any switchboard work the assessment identifies, set out in the quote.

Plan your budget

EV charger installation costs

A single-phase home EV charger supplied and installed has a published Sydney range of $1,200–$3,000, including GST. It assumes suitable existing supply; major switchboard work, trenching and network upgrades need a separate quote.

Published market guidance, checked 21 October 2026. Xcel quotes your actual job before work starts.

Your property

Planning the work in Stanmore

For older houses, terraces and cottages in Stanmore, access behind walls and above ceilings matters as much as the fitting or equipment being installed.

From the board to the parking space

Check the supply and board before buying a charger. An older installation may need protection or circuit work; supply-side changes require a separate authorised provider.

Vehicle, charger and supply

The charging setup needs to suit the vehicle, charger specification and available supply. A higher charger rating does not by itself establish the charging speed your property can support.

Position and cable route

Parking orientation, cable reach, wall or mounting location and the distance from the switchboard affect installation. Include photos of these areas with your enquiry if useful.

Property permission

For rented or strata-managed property, establish who must approve the work. A private parking bay does not automatically mean its power supply or cabling route is privately controlled.

What decides the price

The price depends on the charger, the cable run from the switchboard and any switchboard work the assessment finds. Quotes are free and written, and set out equipment supply and any extra work rather than relying on a general installation price.

Your questions

EV charger installation questions

Can you install a charger I have already chosen?

Usually, yes. Send the make, model, power rating and installation instructions with your enquiry. We check that the charger suits your supply and switchboard, and confirm what the installation includes, before you book.

If the charger isn’t a good match for the property, we explain why and what the alternatives are, so you can decide before any work is arranged.

Will I need a switchboard upgrade?

Not always. It depends on the existing switchboard, the supply to the property and the charger you choose. The assessment looks at circuit protection, available capacity and space on the board for a new circuit.

Some properties only need a new dedicated circuit. Others need switchboard work first, such as more space or updated protection. If extra work is needed, we explain why and include it in the quote before anything goes ahead. An upgrade is not assumed for every property.

Our guide to the signs you need a switchboard upgrade explains what we look for on an older board.

Can I install an EV charger in an apartment parking space?

It depends on the building, the electrical supply, the cable route and approvals. Tell us whether the bay is allocated to your apartment and whether the owners corporation has an existing charging arrangement.

In a strata building, work on common property usually needs the owners corporation’s approval, and the power may need to come from your unit’s supply or a shared one. A shared-building installation needs assessment, rather than assuming a standard home installation will suit.

What should I include when requesting a free quote?

Include the property address and type, the proposed charger position and any vehicle or charger details you have. Photos of the switchboard and the parking area help us understand the cable route and the space on the board. Leave any electrical covers in place.

For an apartment or rented property, tell us who approves the work and whether the owners corporation or landlord has already agreed to it.

What access should I arrange for the visit?

Keep the work area and switchboard accessible, tell us about parking or locked gates, and arrange entry to any rooms involved. For an apartment or shared building, also check meter-room access, lift bookings and permitted work hours with the building manager. Confirm approval for work affecting common property.
