These are planning ranges from published trade sources, not Xcel Electrical prices or a guarantee that every job falls within a range. All amounts are in Australian dollars. Your written quote confirms the scope, equipment, labour, exclusions and GST before work starts.
Prices and what they cover
| Work | Planning range | Inclusions and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Home charger supplied and installed | $1,200–$3,000GST: included | Typical single-phase 7 kW home charger and installation with suitable existing supply. Major switchboard changes, trenching and network upgrades are separate. Home charger supplied and installed: Price source |
| Installation labour only | $700–$1,300GST: included | For a suitable customer-supplied charger. This is one part of the complete job, not an alternative total: charger hardware and any extra electrical work must be added. See the supplied-and-installed range above. A practical example
One charger beside a garage parking bay
The $1,200–$3,000 complete range is relevant to a single-phase charger on a suitable existing supply. A long route to a detached garage, trenching or shared apartment parking changes the scope. If you already own the charger, compare the installation allowance separately and confirm that protection, mounting and commissioning are covered.
An example scope for planning, not a completed Xcel job or a quotation.
What changes the cost?
Cable route and existing supply
Distance, wall penetrations, switchboard capacity and the parking position affect installation. A short run beside the board is different from a detached garage.
Load management and approvals
Strata parking, shared supply and multiple chargers need additional planning. A charger’s maximum rating does not mean the property or vehicle can use that output.
Before you arrange the work
Before buying a charger
Confirm the vehicle, parking location, supply and whether solar-aware operation matters. Check the equipment’s installation requirements before purchase.
Electrical scope
The quote should describe the circuit, protection, mounting and commissioning. Network or Level 2 supply upgrades are separate from Xcel’s charger installation service.
Sources and how to use these figures
We checked the linked published prices on 21 October 2026. Where a source explicitly excludes GST, the figures here add 10%. Where GST is not stated, the table says so. Some references cover NSW generally or a specific Sydney suburb; their scope is identified below. Any rounding is explained with the source. These are sourced ranges, not a statistically measured market average or a maximum price for complex work.

Common questions
Can I compare installation-only and package prices?
Only after adding the charger and all required equipment to the installation-only figure. Check whether cable length, protection and commissioning are included.
Does a three-phase charger make every car charge faster?
No. Charging is limited by the car’s onboard charger and available supply as well as the wall unit.
Does solar-aware charging have one fixed extra cost?
No. Charger features, metering, load management and compatibility with the existing solar system vary. Ask for the equipment and commissioning to be included in a complete installation quote.
