Planning your job in Ashfield
Ashfield is mostly apartments, many of them older walk-up blocks along with newer buildings near the station and Liverpool Road, with Federation and inter-war houses in the surrounding streets, parts of which are heritage conservation areas. In the walk-ups, unit switchboards often have only a few circuits and a limited supply. In the period houses, original wiring, ceramic fuses and missing safety switches are common reasons to call.
Work around your property
Ashfield is in Inner West Council’s area, about 10 km from our base in Ryde, next to Haberfield and its well-known heritage streets. Shops, restaurants and offices along Liverpool Road and around Ashfield Mall can book work outside trading hours. Many homes are rented, so we can arrange access through property managers. Every job starts with a free, written quote, and wiring work comes with a CCEW.
Meter rooms and shared access
In apartments, access to the switchboard, meter room and common property often goes through the building manager or owners corporation, so tell us how access works and whether approval is needed.

Your questions
Electrical questions in Ashfield
Can my older Ashfield walk-up unit have air conditioning added?
Often, but three things need checking. The unit’s switchboard needs space for a new circuit, the cable from the main board to your unit must be able to carry the extra load, and the outdoor unit usually goes on a balcony or external wall, which is often common property. That makes approval from the owners corporation the first step. We check the electrical side and give you details for the strata manager.
Can we have an EV charger at our Ashfield house if we park on the street?
Not on the street itself. A home charger is installed on your own property, so it needs a driveway, garage or hardstand where the car can park, and a cable run across the footpath would be a trip hazard. Many Federation houses have a side driveway or rear lane access that works. We check the parking position, the cable route and the switchboard and supply, which in older houses may need upgrading first.
How is the price worked out?
The scope, fittings, condition of the existing wiring and access all affect the price. Our cost guides give Sydney market ranges to help you budget; they are not a quote for your property. Xcel Electrical provides a free written quote explaining the agreed work and price before it starts. If testing reveals further work, we explain the options before proceeding.
What access should I arrange for the visit?
Keep the work area and switchboard accessible, tell us about parking or locked gates, and arrange entry to any rooms involved. For an apartment or shared building, also check meter-room access, lift bookings and permitted work hours with the building manager. Confirm approval for work affecting common property.
Will the power need to be turned off?
Many electrical jobs require the affected circuit to be isolated while work is carried out. A switchboard job may interrupt power to the whole property. We explain the expected interruption when planning the work. Tell us about medical equipment, refrigeration, business operations or anything else that needs an uninterrupted supply so suitable arrangements can be made.
