Switchboard upgrades in Leets Vale
Switchboard assessment, safety switches and circuit upgrades planned around the existing supply and the equipment you want to run.

Protection and capacity
Does your switchboard need upgrading?
An old fuse board can struggle with modern appliances and may leave circuits without safety switch protection. We check the fuses, backing board, wiring and existing protection before recommending a switchboard upgrade or replacement.
Frequent trips, a renovation or a new appliance such as air conditioning or an EV charger are common reasons to have the board checked. You get a written quote and a clear explanation of the work.

Your property
Planning the work in Leets Vale
Access in Leets Vale can involve narrow river roads, steep paths or water access. Confirm how the property is reached before a visit is arranged; timing depends on that access as well as the work.
Board condition and capacity
An outdoor board needs a suitable enclosure and safe access. Long runs to outbuildings may also need sub-board and cable assessment, rather than simply adding another breaker.
Confirm access before booking
Describe the road, path or water access and how materials can reach the property. We confirm whether the visit can be arranged and the expected timing when you contact us.
Capacity for the work you have planned
Tell us about appliances, an EV charger or renovation circuits you expect to add. We assess the existing supply, circuit protection and space in the board together, and separate any network-side work from the switchboard quote.
Older boards need care
Ceramic fuses, timber backing boards and boards that may contain asbestos need careful assessment. We explain what we find, and any extra work it involves, before quoting.
How it works
What a switchboard upgrade involves
Assess and agree the work
We inspect the switchboard, discuss what you use and plan to add, and check for safety concerns. You get a recommendation and a written quote.
Plan and install
We order the parts, arrange any network operator coordination and book a time that suits you, then replace the board with the power safely isolated.
Test and hand over
We test the new board and every safety switch, provide a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) and show you how to test your safety switches.
Why Xcel
What you get with a new switchboard
Insured electricians
Switchboard work is done by insured electricians, to the Wiring Rules (AS/NZS 3000) and NSW requirements, with a 12-month workmanship warranty.
Every circuit labelled
Each circuit is labelled on the new board, so you can tell which breaker controls what when you need to switch something off.
Room for what comes next
We leave space for extra circuits where practical, so solar, a battery or an EV charger can be added later.
Urgent faults
Same-day service is sometimes available for urgent switchboard faults, and an unsafe board is covered by our 24/7 emergency service.

Switchboard upgrade questions
How do I know if my switchboard needs upgrading?
Common signs are breakers that trip often or fuses that blow, buzzing or crackling at the board, visible damage or rust, ceramic fuses or a timber backing board, no safety switches, and not enough circuits for what you use. Planning a renovation or a large new appliance is another reason to have it checked. Our guide to the signs you need a switchboard upgrade explains each one.
A burning smell or a hot, crackling board is urgent: call 0404 121 983. Otherwise, we can inspect the board and tell you whether it needs an upgrade or a smaller repair.
How much does a switchboard upgrade cost in Sydney?
A typical home switchboard upgrade has a published Sydney planning range of $1,500–$3,000, including GST. Extra circuits, defects, asbestos or supply changes can take a job outside this range. These are published planning ranges, not Xcel rates. We confirm a written quote for your property and agreed scope before work starts.
How long does a switchboard upgrade take to complete?
A standard home switchboard upgrade typically takes 4–8 hours, depending on the installation and the scope of work. Adding safety switches might take 2–3 hours, while a complete replacement for a larger home, or one with extra work, can take a full day. Commercial switchboard upgrades generally take 1–2 days.
The power is off for most of the job, so plan for fridges and anything else that needs power. We confirm the timeframe after seeing the board, and businesses can book the work after hours.
Are safety switches (RCDs) mandatory in Sydney homes?
The Wiring Rules (AS/NZS 3000) require safety switch (RCD) protection for power and lighting circuits in new homes and for new electrical work. Many older homes were wired before that applied, so some of their circuits may have no RCD protection.
When we upgrade a switchboard, the new board includes RCD protection to current standards. If you’re not sure whether your home is protected, look for a test button on the switchboard, or ask us to check. Requirements can change, so for anything specific, check current NSW requirements.
How do I maintain my new switchboard after an upgrade?
Keep the area around the switchboard clear, dry and easy to reach. Test your safety switches (RCDs) every three months using the test button; each one should trip straight away.
We suggest an inspection by a licensed electrician every 3–5 years for residential properties, and more often for commercial installations. Don’t attempt repairs or changes to the switchboard yourself.
If you notice frequent tripping, a burning smell, buzzing or visible damage, contact a licensed electrician straight away.
What access should I arrange for the visit?
Explain how the property is reached, including any water access, narrow road, gate or track, and how equipment can be brought in. We confirm the access arrangements before booking.
